The point was they wanted it for their internal accounting. Generally, clinics want to be able to account for each fee slip because that's how they know nobody walked out without paying.

But it is strange in that the "superbill" was originally developed as a piece of paper a patient could take with him that had all the information required for filing a HCFA-1500 claim form. I found it interesting that now, the clinic is basically saying, "You don't need any documentation of your visit".

I simply insisted on a copy and it wasn't a problem or anything, but I found it amusing.
