The country as a whole did get poorer. The wealth wiped out in 2008 alone

Hold on. Earlier we were talking incomes, now we're switching to wealth held. Apples and oranges.

As far as your job count, it's true that this country needs to generate 7.2 million jobs over the next 4 years to maintain the current employment rate. Obama's plan of 3 million jobs doesn't make as much of a dent in that as we need. However, we'll have to see if the economic recovery package and his budget plans will kick start the private sector spending again. If it does, then the 3M in jobs his spending directly creates will be supplemented by that much or more private sector jobs

Don't you figure big new carbon taxes might be a problem there?

Course, I'm beginning to think cap and trade may not happen at all. Unless the EPA imposes it or something like it.

We'll see by the end of his term, if I will have been wrong to have put my faith in and my vote on Obama.

Yes, lets pay attention to the misery index:

U.S. misery index

This reached its power-WWII high point in the Carter era, then began falling, reaching its low point in Apr 1998 with Clinton and the Gingrich-led Congress in power. Whoops, I was wrong. Oct 2006 was just a hair under the Apr 1998 low point. Looks like history will record the low point in the misery index since 1965 was reached in Oct 2006, during the economic hell of the Bush-GOP Congressional era and just before the beginning of the Pelosi-Reid Congress. Heh.

The misery index has been rising lately, though be aware the Bush eras 8 year average of 8.1 was only a little above the Clinton eras 8 year average of 7.8.

We should remember this 2 and 4 years from now and see what the misery index is by then. I'll do my best to remember this and publicize whatever change occurs and give Obama-Pelosi-Reid the credit. Thats fair, certainly.
