2. Common principles of decency change. I think you're adhering to common principles of decency from a century or more ago. I'm not sure exactly how many people in the U.S. believe that homosexuality in itself is indecent, and the percentage of people in the U.S. that are OK with gay marriage is creeping towards the 50% mark. So would that make your principles "uncommon?"
