Z, you asked me how I know that tax-n-spend politicians only see taxes as a source of revenue, not as a means to smooth out economic cycles. It's really easy. I just look at all of the justifications brought up for raising taxes. None of them have anything to do with smoothing out the economic cycle. Instead, it's "Woe is us. We're short on tax revenue because of the recession. We need to raise taxes on whoever can afford them to pay for all of the oh-so-great things we're doing right now." Tenchusatsu
