We like our free press. Government representatives are held accountable by them and by the checks and balances of the political system in general. So we want them looking and reporting at what they see. We want them lifting the veils of deception in arenas of power. However, unlike the representatives in government, they are not held accountable for what they say, so we should always press for truth in the press ... especially where the ground has recently been worked.

That push has become very weak, now that the press actually sees themselves as an advocate for a particular partisan lean. Some people see that as a risk to the system in general, especially when that partisan view holds the reigns of power. The press is now saying, don't criticise this, don't challenge that, let's humiliate the skeptics. Entertaining for a time maybe, but if it goes on for very long we lose that accountability pressure that has been so valuable to us as a culture.

They once had a reputation as modern knights challenging powerful dragons of modern times. And now? Now we want them to get back to work.

Yeah!! Dead bolt the papers and buy more ammo. Tea anyone?

The papers have deadbolted themselves by not recognizing that printed newspapers are a useless pain in the ass. I, more than anyone here, have expressed my concern over the impending loss of the newspaper industry.

But is also important to recognize that, collectively, newspaper reporters, by their nature, are liberal. What's different today versus 30 years ago is they make no effort to be balanced in the reporting.

The news media has failed this country after serving an admirable purpose for 200 years. Their special status was conceived as part of a comprehensive set of checks and balanced, and unfortunately, the stars aligned (or planets crashed, depending on how you see it) and allowed all of the checks and balances to be maintained by socialists.

Had to happen, sooner or later.
