You seem to limit that to Galileao... I don't. <But those are matters of religious belief and I wouldn't want to address them here.> Well, which is precisely why you don't see the Catholic Church as an historical oppressor of science (and therefore truth).... you seem to think that there is some nice little comfy compartment over here for science, and over here for "religious belief", in which case there would be no "creationsits" or "Dawkins & Dennets". :)) <I see you have no information indicating the Catholic church has been some major oppressor of science either. You've side-stepped all invitiations to support your position with ANY reference and all you come up with bluff and bluster. Tsk tsk.> I'm sidestepping nothing, one: this is not the right thread, secondly... there are absolutely reeeeeeems of information pertaining to this debate, I don't pretend to bring anything new to the argument, which is ubiquitous. Your assertion is tantamount to me saying that: "since you haven't started a new thread on the topic you really aren't looking for the truth... tsk tsk". YOU however seem to think that somehow, since you provided a link on the topic and I haven't, that you are the holder of truth on the topic. That's fine but I would subit that the truth is out there, and we have to find it, I've found mine, and update it daily as I wander through the day... You seem upset that I'm not helping you update yours... but there are more knowlegable folks on the topic. I can only give you my opinion... you haven't found 'em yet! :)) <And the issue of religion and science have a bearing on what s/b and can be taught in schools. > I disagree that this tangential topic of Catholic Church history is relevant to teaching evolution or not... except to note that the Church's schools (often spanked and embarrassed by it's own flock) DO teach evolution... the flock makes sure of that.
