The Medallion 300X-D, which is designed for data and graphics-intensive applications, is loaded with a dual processor motherboard, dual channel SCSI, AGP, and a RAID port -- all in a Windows 98/NT 5.0-ready system. The Medallion 300X-D is powered by dual Intel Pentium II 300MHz processors with MMX Technology on a Tyan Computer-designed Thunder II ATX motherboard, which features Intel's new 440LX AGPset. The Medallion's system board includes all the technology needed to power the next generation of hardware and operating systems with features such as AGP, DVD (Digital VideoDisc) and USB (Universal Serial Bus) support. The expected base price is $3495, which includes everything except the monitor and extra CPU. It is scheduled for mid-November shipping. "The Medallion is a system built for the future, but with all of today's latest technology. It's ideal for professional quality streaming multimedia applications, such as Real Player server; studio-quality video editing; high-end 3-D motion graphics and 3-D virtual development," said Mike Zabaneh, COO of Tangent. The Medallion will ship with 64 MB of synchronous DRAM DIMMs, expandable to 1GB. The 512K L2 cache is built into the CPU and supports ECC error correction. Other features include a STB Velocity 128 AGP 3D Accelerator with 4MB of SGRAM; built-in 16bit Yamaha OPL Sound System with Wave Table Software; Wake-On-LAN connector; Toshiba DVD ROM drive and MPEG2/AC-3 Decoder, and AC45 Altec Lansing speakers. Storage features include a 4GB, 10,000 RPM Ultra-Wide SCSI hard drive, which is connected to an Adaptec AIC-7895P dual channel Ultra-Wide SCSI controller with RAID support for full support of streaming multimedia operations. The Medallion will also include an Iomega Zip 100 drive, and 1.44 floppy drive. Connectivity is provided through a 100Mbit network adapter. The Medallion 300X-D's self-monitoring and diagnosis hardware and full Desktop Management Interface 2.0 support, along with the included LanDesk Client Manager, makes the system completely manageable across a LAN. The Medallion 300X-D has 1 AGP port, 4 PCI and 2 ISA internal slots. The external expansion connectors include 2 9-pin serial, 1 parallel, 2 PS/2, 2 USB, 1 MIDI/Joystick, line-in, line out, and speaker out. The STB video card provides NTSC composite or S-Video output, while the BrookTree digitizer provides composite or S-Video input. DVD output to TV and Audio is provided on the DVD decoder card. The system comes with a five-year warranty on the processor and main memory, and three years on hardware.
