They have to put more scrubbers on and that's going to be very expensive. The other killer is that the coal is coming from a long ways away. In the end I think TransAlta will just give up since it's hard to keep up with our cheap hydro power here in the Northwest. The upgrades will just cost too much. The plant was built many years ago right next to some coal seams but most of them have run out and the coal that is left is pretty dirty compared to coal from the midwest.
