Baathist control was going to be eliminated no matter what, but we could have made the transition a LOT smoother. The Baathists kept the infrastructure running and there wasn't anybody to take their place.

The biggest mistake was disbanding the military. That put a lot of guys with weapons and training on the streets with no jobs.

Now the Shiites are the abusers and murderers. I can't really blame them after being under the heel of the Baathists and Saddam for so long. It would have been nice if someone had considered all this stuff before we went in there, but apparently they thought that everybody would be so happy to have Saddam out that they'd just let us install Chalabi the way we installed Karzai and everything would be hunky dory..
