if everyone knew it wasn't intelligently regulated, they would have intelligently regulated it, no? Err...no. There is a large and vocal contingent in commerce in the USA who thinks pretty much ALL regulation is of the Devil. You must have missed Greenspan's admission that he himself had been hoodwinked by this ideology, and that that was partly responsible for the mess we are in. so why would health care be any different over time? In that case you would not want a single payer, especially a government run one.
