I personally think the antigenic properties of this virus aren't new to us..........perhaps our vigilance in getting flu vaccines has protected us from it.

However, the pandemic virus of 1918 was initially not so fatal when it came onto the scene in the spring.It's virulence increased substantially when it showed up again that fall. The virus is likely to mutate many times and change characteristics by next year.

The child that died in Texas was an infant and was more likely to be immunologically more naive then an adult.
