LB,

We know that heart disease is caused by a combination of things. And we are a long way from being able to pinpoint the cause. That is why Dr Davis recommends, and I push, a "shotgun" approach.

The goal is to stop the growth of CAD, and to reduce inflammation. The most important things that will help this are weight reduction and excercise.

Many of the same approaches work to prevent other chronic diseases.

While doing this, and trying to figure out what works, we are hammered by the Health Food types who have a million products we are supposed to use.

Judy free market at work. I would not call it "hammering". You are always free to either buy the product or buy into an idea.

OTOH, Your Doctor typically tells you "lose weight, take this statin and call 911 if you have chest pain." The specialists don't want to be bothered unless you need a procedure. Which is what you are trying to avoid.

Marriage counselor and a divorce lawyer are not the same person. They are different people, have different sets of skills and different incentives. Perhaps it is wrong for cardiologist surgeons to be counselors at the same time...

Maybe the duty of counselor should be stripped from the surgeons. They have a conflict of interest. More they neglect their job as a counselor, the better they do financially as surgeons...
