Which essentially is what happened. Oh, it didn't totally grind to a halt, but the Capemax ships came very, very close to that.

Yep, there was a very good reason the Fed and the Treasury panicked and demanded $Tillions, NOW. Funny so few people think "what if?" all those insolvent banks had stopped functioning. Paychecks, credit cards, all imports/exports including fuel, all significant purchases, most mortgages, on and on...

But those tough "Republican individualists" would have been OK I guess. "They don't need no stinkin' banks".
