I think a case could be made that cardiologists should take the initiative to make this counseling function happen but I now believe that criticizing cardiologists for not doing it themselves is off target.

"Procedures" for Cardiologists have only been in general use since about 1990. Prior to that a Cardiologist specialised in diagnostics and treatment of heart disease though the use of what drugs and supplements were known.

Statins came into general use in the early 1990's. So they and the Cath lab are relatively new drugs and procedures.

I finally realized early this year that I did not want to consult a Cardiologist unless I needed a procedure. I needed a Doctor who could not do procedures so that there was a chance he might be interested in doing preventative work, or at least helping me do that work.

That is why, if I were not tied up to my HMO, I would find a "anti-aging" or "MD-DO" for my primary care. They are much more in tune with our thinking here. And where they disagree, they are still more willing to go along with us.
