Good points, but not what was meant by "lack of humility."

We can't function properly without confidence, true. Pride is another matter.

Confidence isn't pride.

"...our worst failing is lack of introspection, ie, a lack of being aware of how complete or incomplete our thought processes might be..."

We don't need introspection to tell us that: by definition, we are fallible; so is our judgement. When, through lack of humility we begin to believe otherwise, bad things happen.

That's the value of the contrarian and the skeptic: they expose thought to rational evaluation.
