The wife of a colleague in Canada was an aboriginal [I guess not pure-bred but she looked like a gorgeous Pocahontas]. She was a regular human so there are obviously escape routes. As with Maoris, they are not all in the government trough, though a high proportion of Maoris are. Choosing to be a welfare dependant is a seductive life-changing decision. I can understand people choosing that, not seeing the trap they
are entering. They become state serfs, having to vote for more of the same, or see their funding stop.

Some Maoris are starting to realize that the welfare state is a big problem for their bros, but free money has great allure when the alternative is getting out of bed in the morning, sober, and going to an arduous and tedious low-paid job.

Decades ago, when young and naive, it seemed a good idea to have charity done by the government. That was before I had experienced much in the way of government hopelessness.

A group of us promoted "Vote at 18". It was amazing when we got it because I assumed even then that authorities wouldn't listen. What I didn't realize was that the Labour Party was smarter than me and they realized that ignorant, gullible youngsters would vote [mostly] for them. Which they did, thereby accelerating the decline.

Now I'm in favour of raising the voting age or linking it to how much tax is paid by the voter. Votes according to tax paid = No tax, no vote, but have referenda on things like morals and criminal laws. "Should we kill category 5 murderers?" should go to referenda as it's not a matter of spending OPM.

Tradable citizenships would solve a lot of problems and more correctly assign value and discover price.

If you give votes to 8 year olds, a lot of them will vote for free lollies.
