all,

Most everyone knowledgeable I know who uses a Mac
knows that the G3 machines will be killer. It still
all depends on Rhapsody, which seems to be on track.

IBM to announce in Feb. 1.1 GHz chip.

Alomex--everybody is waiting on the G3s. And as a possible example of how the market will react, the rumors sites and Mac magazines are drooling over the Nov. machines. And did you catch the WSJ guest editorial that raved about Apple's _current_ hardware advantage?

You have to admit, there are lots of people who either have never used a Wintel box or just don't want to. There are even more people who are very, very happy with their Macs and have been waiting to upgrade.

Marc

>The current Apple user worries about the survival of the company and viability of the platform.>

As a long-time Apple user, I worry about neither of these things. I've never needed Apple's support services for any of their fine products (been using since the IIe), and the Mac I now have is as viable as I need. When I buy my new G3 here next month, I expect I'll have the same results: easily configurable, expandable power at my fingertips, not to mention the best OS on the market.

Surely you must have some basis, however unfounded, for your assertion that Apple users are no longer looking for a faster machine or a better OS. Pay any attention to OS8 sales? Some Apple users must be looking for a better OS....

In any case, I'll tuck away your comment on G3 machines not having an impact on Apple's bottom line, just in case. I suppose that if Apple does experience a bounce back you could always reply that it wasn't G3 sales that caused the rise, but Ellison's involvement with Apple, or Jobs signing back on as CEO, or some other reason.

In any case, I'm looking forward to the next six weeks. At these prices, this is like Christmas in October!

Good luck to you today.

Marq (I kinda like that one)
