While folks on this thread complain about the mounting deficits and debt, I find it rather convenient that all of you forget that the Republicans are just as bad when it comes to spending. Both Reagan and Bush pushed through MASSIVE economic stimulus packages in their day. The only difference is that their stimulus came in the form of tax cuts, which they BORROWED to finance. Democrats spend almost as much (not quite), but they focus their stimulus more on domestic spending and investment, such as public renewal programs and renewable energy.

The harsh reality is that 95% of our debt was acquired during Republican presidencies. And in all of your frenzy to call Obama a socialist for wanting to raise taxes on the top 1%, you all forget that both Reagan and Bush Sr raised taxes during their Presidencies. Reagan cut taxes and then had to raise taxes twice later on. Bush said read my lips, no new taxes, and then proceeded to raise them.

So let's all quit with the hypocritical theatrics against Obama. None of you are pristine. The reality is that if Obama was a GOP President, you'd all be supporting him with all your hearts. It's just that he's Dem and that rankles you, so you don't support him. Grow up and learn to love your country not your party.

The chart below is unadjusted for inflation...if inflation were accounted for then it would show that Republicans borrowed even more to spend on their tax cut packages.

Yup,

Some folks must be living in a dream world. Europe and other places in the world are way, way ahead of us in caring for all of their citizens.

In our country last year over half a million folks declared bankruptcy just because of medical bills!

In Germany nobody declared bankruptcy,

In England nobody declared bankruptcy,

In Switzerland nobody declared bankruptcy. (due to medical bills)

I could go on and on, Taiwan, Japan and others.

We have the most expensive, most inefficient healthcare system in the world. A few get rich while the vast majority of us suffer with staggering bills.

To get a perspective on this watch this great Frontline Doc:

Sick Around The World pbs.org

It really sums up the problems our country has with medical care for it's citizens.

Do tell us about all of the great things failed socialist countries have to offer.
