There've been big investments made in renewable energy r&d for decades - both govt and private money.

The R&D investment our country is doing now, if continued for the next 10 years, makes it inevitable that renewables will become more cost effective than fossil fuels. It's just a matter of time now.

I'm not nearly as convinced as you are.

The American tradition is more of fumble our way to the truth.

Or as Churchill once said:

"You can always count on Americans to do the right thing--after they've tried everything else!"

That's the problem with Alternative Fuels. We're too short term in our thinking and we don't think things out with a long-term strategy.
