I was home from school, too. I was sick with a cold.

We had to go and pick up my younger sister, who was in first grade.

I was in the surveying lab at forestry school. A fraternity brother came in and announced that Kennedy got shot. This fraternity brother was a jokester, the kind that would come up slap you on your back and say "Hey, I hear your mother just died."

Yeah, right. We went back to our surveying problem.

Pretty soon we were driving up and down the brick streets of Missoula wondering what they hell was coming to the world. We got a paper off the steps of the Daily Missoulian headquarters, and it had big red headlines. "Kennedy Shot In Dallas."

One of those days when everybody remembers where they were and what they were doing.

I was a young woman then, hubby on a sales trip to NYC and Long Island, and saw Walter Cronkite announce that....We were glued to the TV the rest of the weekend. He brought home a NYT paper with a picture of NO ONE in Times Square except a lone policeman on top of his horse. We might still have that paper here someplace.

We were all horrified that our President had been killed. Even though we weren't fond of his programs, nor the Bay of Pigs mess...but it was beyond reason to think someone could kill the President.
