A bunch of sites like Google, Yahoo, (and this one) draw readers and advertisers largely by posting the key paragraphs of a story (or the whole story) written by staff paid by newspapers. It's like copying a DVD and selling it.

"Fair use" has been stretched totally out of proportion and it's killing the source of income for the new organizations that are vital for a free, market based economy to survive.

I get two papers delivered every morning (New York Times and Chicago Tribune), then mainly read their contents for free on-line. But I feel that it's a better use of my income than most of my tax payments...

It may not make sense, but I think it's the right thing to do.
