Crawford seems to be a very sane and interesting guy - a philosopher and a mechanic. That's the way life should be... :)

Some of his thoughts about mechanisation of "knowledge work" are particularly interesting to me. I've posted here and there some observations about "clinical pathways" and various algorithms which are become ubiquitous in medical practice. There are many good things about them, but they also lead to a brave new world where substantial chunks of medical care may be farmed out to computers. If done right, it may be a very good thing - but there is also danger. I've encountered quite a few printouts of electronic records which were more or less incomprehensible - to a human mind, anyway....
