The only REAL fiscal conservative we've had in the last 27 years was Clinton.

He's all over Bush in this regard, but I'm not sure I'd call him a real fiscal conservative. Give him today's congress and take away "the peace dividend", and I doubt he would have had a single balanced budget.

the majority of our debt has come during Republican Presidencies

Look at your own chart. The national debt as a percentage of GDP is highest for Truman and Obama. Of course they both had good excuses (WWII for Truman, and starting with a high level of national debt and a recession for Obama), and Truman bought the debt down, but Obama's projecting a much larger increase in the debt than we had under Bush.

As for your first chart I don't disagree with most of it, but "Bush's Predicted Future Contribution (2009)" is more of a part Bush, part Obama thing.

I get so tired of hearing that. READ THE DAMN CONSTITUTION!! Once again, the President can only propose a budget. It's CONGRESS that actually taxes and spends.

Clinton had, for the last 6 of his 8 years, a GOP controlled Congress that was actually semi fiscally responsible at the time. Clinton was also lucky in riding the tech boom, which fattened federal tax coffers. Jo Mama could have been President in the 90's and would have enjoyed the "fiscal conservative" label.

Reagan had a Dem Congress that showed little fiscal restraint..
