TR started the Forest Service with Gifford Pinchot, the father of American forestry. The Park Service was formed later, under Wilson. I'm pretty ignorant about the anti-trust laws, but there were some pretty bad environmental abuses perpetrated by the mining and logging interests of the day. Somebody needed to clean that up. We don't see the effects of the logging abuses because trees do grow back, but there are plenty of examples of mining disasters. The trees around Kellogg Idaho are still having trouble because of the smelter fumes. TR rode a horse and carried a Peacemaker. He's all right in my book. I have a whole set of his books, all about hunting.
