To me that is kind of like a television remote control. When they first become popular everyone is taken with the novelty. Now they are just such a part of life, that they are taken for granted.

Incidentally I think analysis of Google searches is only valid to track interest in a subject. IMO it would be a very crude tool to track the actual occurrence of a phenomenon. There are things that occur commonly but attract little attention and things that occur rarely but attract a huge amount of attention.
