That a judge should be objective and not ruled by emotion is not the same as calling for "sociopathology". What a great example of a false choice. Be a biased liberal or be a sociopath.

And I have watched both men over their entire careers:" That diagnosis seems a little skewed but I have to admit, I know little about them in comparison to your 40 year study claim. "Well, the right wing is saying no empathy. So how woulda sociopath rule in a child custody case. Imagine that! That would be awful. The ones I've listened to didn't say there should be no empathy, they said empathy should be part of the consideration but it shouldn't be an overriding factor in the decision. I don't listen to the extremists though, so I don't know what they are saying.

Also you can be both without being sociopaths. Grandiose Sense of Self Feels entitled to certain things as "their right." That's really two seperate things even though they could be connected in some. People with a gradiose sense of self, might feel entitled, but people with real or imagined entitlements to "certain things", don't necessarily have a grandiose sense of self. and again You make no argument that Scalia and Rehnquist are these things. Also you can be both without being sociopaths. Pathological Lying etc. Rather than repeating myself a lot, I'll refrain from responding to each point, and just point out that for symptom after symptom you provide a brief description of the symptom, but no argument connecting it to Scalia or Rehnquist. Callousness/Lack of Empathy Belief that empathy should not play a leading role in judicial decisions about constitutional law does not equal belief that it should play no role, which in turn does not equal or imply a lack of empathy.

BTW I've spent over 50 years studying sociopathic behavior (heck, if you can claim this so can I) and I say we don't have any sociopaths on the SC. There could be a few in Congress, notably Ted Kennedy. Profile of the Sociopath This website summarizes some of the common features of descriptions of the behavior of sociopaths. Glibness and Superficial Charm <check> Manipulative and Conning <check> They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims. Grandiose Sense of Self <check> Feels entitled to certain things as "their right." Pathological Lying <check> Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests. Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt <no sign of remorse for the young woman he killed, continued on with Senate career.> A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises. Incapacity for Love <?> Need for Stimulation <check> Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common. Callousness/Lack of Empathy <check> Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them. Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature <check> Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others. Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency <? cheating> Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc. Irresponsibility/Unreliability <tried to get aides to back up a lie about the Chappaquidick accident> Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.
