World on Fire made me realize our "democratic ideals" (at least as we often implement them, or as they get implemented in the world today) are often inimical to our own self interest. Iran's great leap to democracy (for example) was not particularly fabulous for us. There are many other examples.

I Just find it difficult to separate the message from the messenger. I am trying to separate the message from the messenger. I find the message offensive. I find it almost impossible to deal with or enter into discussion with messengers of that ilk. Poor Obama. He is going to have to deal with people of that ilk when he steps in to mediate the interests of the parties involved in the ME.
