Ratio of working to retired in many examples nearing 1 for 1.and has been dropping for years.
Why so difficult for high priced managers, boards of directors to recognize this as a problem and deal with early before catastrophy?Recognize out of control debt as the major problem.
They have not, and will not it seems until too late as in links posted and bankrupty arrived.
The private pensions that are fully funded today have working to retired ratios similar to 1 for 1 but have weathered the storm...so far ...because they have controled their debt and have not lavished a fully indexed to inflation pension on their retired pensioners only giving occasional boost when plan can afford it.
There was boastfull ranting on a certain web site a few years back how joe teacher retired with $20,000.00 pension and when he died was bringing in $ 60,000.00 because of fully indexed C.O.L.A...a sixth grader can figure out that can't go on forever...but that is public example backed by you know who.. and we can see the shape governments are in these days.
The vast majority have to provide their own pension, and from what i have seen, never know when they have accumulated enough, so never retire..lol
Elmatador eh, how much do you need in your retirement annuity at 2% to retire at 50 in the life style you deserve..2 million ? 5?? <g>Are annuities safe?

btw, speaking of retirement, coffers, obligations, taking all their money, etc, this following IS funny and show obama wastrelism at its very best, setting up terrorists for fantabulous tropical island retirement ... and so encouraging more terrorists to sign up for the same moronic program funded by true wastrels and underwritten by tax serfing cows

news.yahoo.com

"... Two U.S. officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the U.S. was prepared to give Palau up to $200 million in development, budget support and other assistance in return for accepting the [edit: 17] Uighurs and as part of a mutual defense and cooperation treaty that is due to be renegotiated this year ..."

US$ 12 million a terrorist - south pacific tropical retirement redefined :0) with regular review clause yet - simply too funny.
