Major Taiwan IC designers expect growth in June
Original date: 2009/6/16

Many major Taiwan IC design houses and service providers have forecast revenue growth for June, as improved foundry utilization is facilitating their shipments, according to market sources.

The designers forecasting sequential growth for June include Realtek Semiconductor, Richtek Technology, Global Mixed-mode Technology (GMT), Ene Technology, Global Unichip, Faraday Technology, Elan Microelectronics, Novatek Microelectronics, Orise Technology, Stronix Technology, Ralink Technology and TrendChip Technologies, the sources said.

Due to an influx of short-lead time orders, which have been generated by demand from emerging markets since late first-quarter, foundries have been taking orders more selectively because of reduced capacity, a result of output reduction amid the economic downturn, the sources said.

The reduced output from foundries has hit smaller IC designers more than their bigger competitors, the sources noted.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) are usually giving priority to first-tier IC design companies or their subsidiaries, added the sources.
