Anecdotal: was talking to two neighbors who were laid off last week, also on my evening walk talked to a retired 80 year old doctor who told me "he was losing his behind by being short S&P". The interventions has baffled people and sent them running helter-skelter in terms of investing decisions that can come and bite back while the admin whispers sweet nothing "F&^% you's" into taxpayers ears. The homebuilders must be seeing things differently, considering they are building lot of new homes.

Heard on the radio that unepmoyment benefits runs for 79 weeks, is that right? (I thought I first heard 7-9 weeks but then heard agains and was saying 79 weeks), that is 1.5 years; are we killing incetive for people to work for a living after they adjust to the new lifestyle? although, if any taxpayer money is spent that may be one place I don't have problem with.
With 79 weeks and some severance from employer we would see retail/consumer going for a while, the real pain will start to become apparent in 2010 and later.
