I have both e-schwab and waterhouse.

I was able to connect and trade with Waterhouse(though it was slow
since it is over the internet)

E-schwab was completely down and so was their 800 number.I could not connect with any of their brokers either. That is very bad!

Lucius,

I have an account with Smith Barney and have had no trouble at all getting through. I pay somewhat higher commisions than discount brokers, although I do get preferred rates, and the service and personal relationship I have with my broker are more than worth the slight extra charge to me.

BTW, I have been thinking of a possible scenario for the market, near term. The vast consensus at this time is that after this rebound, the market has to test the lows again. If everyone thinks this and loads up on puts and goes short, it could trigger the reverse and drive the market higher. Any comments?

Regards, JB

lucius-
I was unable to buy this morning and still can't get thru to SCHWAB. They know that they have this problem and last time said it was being corrected. When I lose money because my broker is not willing to spend the money to upgrade ____ THat really irritates me. I hope Mr. Schwab made alot of money buying today, because some of his clients sure did'nt. There should be a law against not having access to your own money. Oh well, tomorrow morning they won't have my money. ....If they aren't to busy that is!!!!

One good thing about being with a full service broker like H&Q
is you get access to IPO's. It doesn't cost anything to keep an
account open, except the cost of the money. I don't know what
kind of balances you have to keep. But ideally you could just
have an account and call them when you need them and move the
money from elsewhere.

I was able to get through to Smith Barney after a 2or 3 minute
wait.

Re; Brokers and accessability(sp?)

Try R J Forbes Group in NY. Verbal orders (short wait today) $35 commiss on
100 or 5K shares. Started using in 1987 after Schwab couldn't handle traffic in
'87 crash and couldn't buy day of and day after. Apparently they still can't handle traffic!!! Oh, you can also access Forbes via computer if you want.

Best of luck, been there!
