So Big Pharma should just be forced to sell their meds at cost, like generics? Something they really don't get is that these new, expensive drugs today become generics in 15 years. So, while it is possible that not everyone can afford expensive drugs today, they are dirt cheap 15 years from now. Take Prozac, for example -- one of the great lifesaving drugs ever invented. Back in the 80s, it was $2/day for some dosages, which was a lot of money back then. A lot of people probably couldn't afford it. But today it is a great dirt-cheap anti-depressant for those who cannot afford the newer, expensive drugs of today (in fact, we give it to our dog to keep him from getting pissed). If they pass this massive reform and take the profits out of drug manufacturing, I sincerely hope there will be an instantaneous drying up of new drug manufacturer research projects. This way, they'll instantly recognized they've killed the goose that lays golden eggs and perhaps be able to undo the damage before we get too far into it. I know Obama won't give up, but I think there is a chance this legislation is going to be DOA, or at least sufficiently watered down that it doesn't do any real damage. I guess that's all anyone can hope for.
