This is characteristic of government programs and it precisely the reason we don't need government running health care. No private insurer would do this; they realize that every claim they process costs money, and to have people resubmitting perfectly clean claims for no reason at all is a waste of money and they wouldn't do it. True, private insurers are more apt to deny a claim for some minor item that is not covered under the insured's contract -- but that is because Medicare is simply unable to cope with the regulations under which it operates. As a result, treatments that should be paid are denied by Medicare time and again without cause or explanation -- adding cost of administering the program. Medicare's administration cost-- when adjusted to put it on equal footing with private insurance companies-- is the same as private insurers. But given their scale they should be able to SAVE administrative costs. Why can't they? Because of these kinds of incompetence.
