Thanks for the reference to the PfP article. Unfortunately, it has all the sins the several of you attribute to Krugman--including name calling. But it does refer to some interesting content--Lindzen et al. It's that content that should be the focus of congressional debates. Let the members of congress who genuinely understand this stuff debate it.

As for my own position in the debate, I'm convinced by the human induced global warming arguments. Doesn't mean I can't change my mind. But right now it seems extremely convincing and well past the point at which policy needs to address it.

As for Krugman, he is what he is. You take what you like with what you don't. He has an element of the taunter, the juvenile (read his NYTimes blog regularly and you'll see what I mean). But you also get an extraordinary mind. That mix is not all that rare in his kinds of academic levels. At least in my experience. But you learn to listen for the content.

As for Texas temps, my youngest brother, friend, daughter, and daughter's 2 year old are in NYC this week. Temps here are middle 70s for the day highs. Rather hard for them to believe.

I keep touch with Texas temps for the obvious reasons. So I've seen these. And wondered. My memory says 100+ temps in late June are rather rare. I recall them in late July into middle Septembers. Myself and my two brothers and mother delivered afternoon newspapers for four years just before I entered high school. So we were intensely aware of the temps. Our family word was that when the winds were hot, it was over 100. Not much of that in June but a great deal of it further into the summer.
