"Seems like the same "extremist Christian religious intolerance" also ushered Europe out of the Dark Ages."

Christianity took Europe INTO the Dark Ages, merrily burning witches, hunting out apostates, banning science, persecuting scientists - the secular Enlightenment brought it out of it.

SD, > Exactly, it was extremist Christian religious intolerance that help bring down Rome and usher in the Dark Ages...

Seems like the same "extremist Christian religious intolerance" also ushered Europe out of the Dark Ages.

Huh? It was mostly the doing of Islam. Islam flourished while Europe languished in darkness. Islam made significant inroads into Europe.........think Spain, Russia, Bosnia, Georgia etc. It was fighting the Muslim invasion that helped Europe come back to life.

Christianity kept the knowledge safe in its monasteries. That's about it. And then to offset that good by starting the Spanish Inquisition.
