Conceptually the idea has existed as far back as tribalism where groups of people agreed to be organized and represented by a council. The history of the world tracks the liberation of peoples from brutal tyranny to greater liberal democracy, and yet there have always been people living in liberty and there have always been tyrants wearing one mask or another, raising one banner or another. People of faith overthrew brutal kingdoms, then people of conscience overthrew oppressive religious authority, then the nobles united and overthrow Empires and nations. And what now? Now as always most of us think we were lucky enough to be born into the right way...that's because the struggle begins within or not at all, where not-at-all is the norm. Liberty is founded upon the courage and hopes of a population who would choose to live free from the coercion of an oppressive regime. But it doesn’t present itself within the constraints of tyranny. It must be encouraged, supported, and if need be fought for. Freedom is living without coercion from religious authority, political authority, or social authority … all of which are corrupt. With this Peace you are enriched whether walking in rags, or robes through castle hallways, or on battle fields, or across the forest meadow. The authority of the social order is never going to preserve a society of individuals, unless or until those individuals take hold of their natural capacities to stand for the noble destiny of human beings. This course is marked by progress toward the liberation of individuals from the tyranny of kings, dogma, and ordered establishment. Our era is no more naturally obliged to the authority of its predecessors than any other. Since we cannot trust completely in the rule of order or authority to guarantee our progress, we must take the responsibility in hand ourselves.
