Two opportunities were lost to start the journey to reality. The first was the signing of the budget bill with all of the promised to eliminate earmarks. The symbolism of a veto of that would have changed the game. Instead it signaled only more of the same - so much for change. The next failure was the sellout to the UAW at the expense of the Chrysler bond holders. This one will do long term damage.

The truth is we need a broad based tax. The Obama 2% fairy tale needs to walked away from in the best and fastest way possible. Additionally we will need a broad based tax to pay for the current promises - not to mention the additional Obama promises.

I wonder if the American people can stand the truth and I wonder if any politician can dare speak the truth.

We are broke and getting broker. Ultimately - and this is the tough one - there will have to be a huge reduction in military spending. No country has been able to afford the welfare state and a large military.
