the GOP doesn't want to do anything to diversify away from oil and gas, despite the overwhelming evidence that oil and gas prices will continue to rise as all supplies that are easy to come by have already been found.

That's ridiculous. The Democrats have limited drilling activities and INDUCED the looming shortage. ANWR, Offshore..

There are considerable domestic oil resources available that could assist in tiding us over while alternative energy technologies reach commercial (and cost-comparable) viability:

Using a play-based assessment methodology, the Minerals Management Service estimated a mean of 85.9 billion barrels of undiscovered recoverable oil and a mean of 419.9 trillion cubic feet of undiscovered recoverable natural gas in the Federal Outer Continental Shelf of the United States.

mms.gov

You construe "Drill!, Drill!, Drill!" as lacking recognition of our obvious need to diversify our energy from fossil fuels.

But DDD actually means that we need to exploit ALL OF OUR AVAILABLE RESOURCES, maximize R&D on a long-term plan for replacing fossil fuels, and avoiding undue economic consequences by FORCING MORE EXPENSIVE, AND UNRELIABLE, energy alternatives.
