<<We spent last evening watching our neighbor shoot off 100s of dollars worth of fireworks out on the gravel bar up at the river. What a show it was!>>

20 years ago we paid a kid $800 to do some work. He spent it all on fireworks and shot them all off in the neighbors yard.

10 years ago another neighbor who had $$ hired a professional team to shoot up the big stuff. Wind shifted and it all went off over our house. What a pain in the ass. I told him the next day that if it ever happened again I'd kill him and his wife and his kids and their horses and dog. It never happened again.

Well, there is lots of 'stuff' here for sure. We had a surprise from one of the grandsons...he had committed to come over and take care of the doggies a couple of times a day (all was in terrific shape when we got back) but before we left, I was showing him what and how needed to be done for them...got carried away and described some of the things he was interested in, and some that he didn't know about...It was fun seeing one of them truly interested in them....especially some of the items that are part of the various families I trace...

When we were up in Victoria, had an "interesting" happening....things always change...but sometimes the change is just not for the better. We have always enjoyed the Laurel Point Inn (beautiful scenery overlooking the downtown buildings and harbor, plus watching all the boat traffic in and out)...we had stayed there several times over the years, but have another favorite now...However went there to dinner last night, and were so surprised...! The entire inside and outside was changed. No flowers in beds, but rather grasses, fern and some shrubs...No ambiance in the lobby nor in the dining room, but very sterile.... We looked at the menu, and decided that since we didn't have any recommend for this chef, and their prices as high or higher than Canlis, we'd just have our drink and opt out for another place. Somehow, both of us felt that if we were going to spend $75-$100 each for a meal, we'd have to enjoy the entire surroundings as well as the food....

I realized there is a difference in 'modern'....Calvin Klein look can be sparce....Ralph Lauren can look modern and yet lived in (or have that illusion)...but this redo on the Inn was just sterile.... The new Westin here in Bellevue is very modern, as in Japanese modern...but somehow their decorators were able to pull it all together, and it is a lovely place....
