John;

As for the last six months' argument, it's simply not politically possible.

If you don't address issues such as this, health care will bankrupt America. What you are talking about is full access - which even the Obama plan does not achieve. That really isn't so much of a problem because no one gets turned away from our hospitals.

What I'm talking about is what has the potential to destroy health care as we know it. What is broken about our health care industry in America is out of control cost that have been and will continue to rise much faster than inflation. As Ben Stein's Dad once said - "if something can't go on forever, it won't". Talk to anyone in the health care industry and you get the same answer- the cost issue. But Krugman doesn't even touch on that. Not only am I willing to beat up on him on this issue - HE deserves it. Just address the cost John. There is no free lunch despite what some on the far left believe.

And I'm not certain it's humane either

What is humane is allowing people to die with dignity when they get to the end of their life rather than prolong that life through artificial means so they lose respect and dignity. Does Teri Shivo bring back any memories? Should she have been kept alive? As our medicine advances - cases such as this increase to the point where we could keep people alive almost forever if we don't make the hard choices. Now if you want to pay for that - that's a different issue. But the cost and taxes would leave our country crippled.
