Abu, they don't know what an indigenous person is: <Dr. Michael Gracey, a medical adviser to Unity of First People of Australia, an aboriginal non-profit organization, suggests that the world's almost 400 million indigenous peoples >

There are 6 billion people, give or take a few. There are 1.3 billion in China and 1 billion in India, 800 million in Africa and there are other countries too, for example Japan and Indonesia with populations in the hundreds of millions. Nearly all of those people are indigenous in any slightly normal meaning of the word. That's about 3 billion or so just in those countries. There are many more, such as England, France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Russia and on and on and on. 400 million is but a very tiny fraction of the total worldwide indigenous population.

In Gracey's usage, "indigenous" obviously means "People who have some ancestors who were living within 1000km of where those people now live in the year 1066 and where the number of people with said ancestors is fewer than the total number of people now living in that area, and who would like to get hold of some of the money that those newbies have got with the help of the local government". It's a racist term only applying to people with a melanin content in their skin giving an ASTM colour of 4 or more.

As you can see, the definition is a contorted contrivance:

<i am afraid. > Don't be afraid. Few of them are cannibals these days, but they will try to get your money, so hide it in a safe bank and don't let the government know about it.

The indigenous people in the Vancouver area are on the Pacific flyway for migratory birds, and they also have extensive exposure to waterfowl.

I expect this will have resulted in greater immunity to various flu strains than people not on a coast.

The Vancouver area did a good job with SARS.

Still, you might want to consider buying some Tamiflu, and possibly other precautions, such as storing some food.

There are various 'social distancing' strategies for slowing down the spread of the flu.

One strategy would be to a each family or small group stay isolated, except for one person, who does all the public interaction. That person would wear a high quality mask, might take Tamiflu as a precaution, and maybe would be over 52 years old, so they may have been exposed to the 1957-8 flu.

Slowing the spread makes time for developing vaccines, finding effective anti-virals, and avoids overloading the health care system.
