Lack of education when the opportunity for education was more limited is different then lack of education or a poor education, when the opportunity is readily available. Having said that, there are plenty of young people who screwup in the HS & college years, but turn into productive and responsible adults, even sans formal education, and some of them might well not take the reverse detour back through college as an adult.

Because the field of engineering depends on performance and not on degrees, it is an excellent example of this. There are lots of non-degreed engineers who do excellent work. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of working with (and learning from) many of them. One curious thing I've noticed however, is that such individuals sometimes shock me with the gaps in their basic knowledge. This may or may not be an issue at times. There is something to be said for having been made to learn the basics of a field, not just the particular niche you end up working in.

Regarding the article, I think he is widely off base here:

It was trounced because The Republican Party refused to hold to account, over the space of more than a decade and two terms of George Bush's Presidency, those who intentionally created a property bubble to siphon off wealth from the average American citizen, and when that bubble exploded those who committed fraud upon the public were bailed out instead of being imprisoned.

I seriously doubt even 25% of the Republican base understands this.

Truman seemed to be smart, and had common sense. According to Wiki, in his childhood, he was an avid musician and also read a lot of history. Despite his lack of a degree, he was chosen to be an officer in the Army, serving in WWI. It seems it was financial problems, and not lack of smarts, that kept him from college, although he went to law school for a time:

"Truman was the only president who served after 1897 not to earn a college degree: poor eyesight prevented him from applying to West Point (his childhood dream) and financial constraints prevented him from securing a degree elsewhere. He did, however, study for two years toward a law degree at the Kansas City Law School (now the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law) in the early 1920s."

Now, about 60 years later, it's pretty inconceivable that a Presidential candidate would not have gone to college. There are just too many ways to afford college nowadays for someone not to go. The very early 1900s were a bit different.

But if the GOP (or any other party) puts up another Truman (or an Eisenhower), I'll vote for him.

Chancels,

Your post deserves recommendation. I've been agreeing with it all day long and I hadn't even read it yet.

Regards,

Reilly

>>(Kind of like global WARMING IMO).<<

You know .. I've been thinking .. [That's rare for me]

All of this Global Warming Crap is just too much Black Asphalt absorbing solar rays ... [Black Shingles on roofs too]

Plant Trees .. and Grass .. and build Rubberized Highways / Turnpikes / Streets / and Driveways.

Emissions as the cause of Global Warming is Hogwash and a way to Tax Us More. It's 10* to 15* cooler in the Green Countryside as opposed to the City Asphalt only 20 miles away.

BTW .. Will other countries Comply with DeCapitate Trade if Passed ?
