Fair enough, maybe I misinterpreted. But the money was a good enough reason to stop, trust me. Making money is a good thing because having enough affords time to focus on the more esoteric things as you put it. All the knowledge and wisdom of the authors you mention can be obtained through study and a library card... maybe soon just with an internet connection. Knowledge has never been more accessible but that doesn't guarantee people will access it. You can lead a horse to water but....

Imo the Greeks were the better thinkers but the Romans put the ideas to better practice idealistically with the mid Republic then corruptible with the Empire. Greece had its own corruptible factor with Athens and the Delian League, but intellectually what it accomplished in its relatively brief golden era is a lasting legacy.

Shakespeare popped up at just the right time in the history of the English language to popularize its spread. He was a great writer not to mention clever thinker... probably the one guy I need to revisit right now because I'd gain more from it now than I did in high school and early college.

Best wishes,
Frank
