I think the numbers changed a lot. And I'm glad the government responded. They didn't do it all right- but imo they didn't have a tremendous amount of time when it looked like the world banking system might collapse. I think people in power, who had access to the "truth" such as it is, were really scared- and rightly so. I'm truly glad we avoided a total freeze on credit. I think people forget that crisis- memories are so short, or in some cases nonexistent.

"I think that they have. I think the chart the Greenspirit posted a bit ago which showed that job loss was greater than what was being predicted for even the first quarter of '09 shows that things are far worse than what was being predicted."

Neal - yes - the numbers have changed to the worse. My point was and is that the basic numbers in the fall of 2008 were such that there was NO WAY to pay for the Obama campaign plans based only taxing the top 2%. A tax increase was needed, or serious spending cuts, before the added Obama spending.

In the fall of 2008 the basic numbers said we were broke. Bush was hated for his deficits. Obama was either ignorant or dishonest when he said no family making less than $250k would have their taxes raised. I do not believe he was that ignorant.

He deserves to be called on this. Dems made a huge issue about Bush lying on things. What is fair for the goose is fair for the gander. The rules of engagement are well set.
