I understand that people are used to summers off- but I'm sure people would find great advantages in year round schools, and if they help the children of the underclass to succeed, a little adjustment in how we address the school year seems a very small price to pay.

I was very impressed by the KIPP schools, and there is no reason public schools could not be like that. I'm certainly willing to do whatever it takes to make my school better- and I'm spending my summer improving myself, and building a new technical writing program for my school. I've also got a great idea for our seniors. I think we should offer an elective class for students who are planning on going to a UC or CSU that forces students to be in a really large class of 100 or so, so the students get some sense of what college will be like. Isn't that a good idea?
