What it boils down to if we are going to go the HMO route again is that each person must realize that they are the manager of their medical diagnosis and care.

I know people who are satisfied with Kaiser, but personally I would rather be able to choose my individual physician. People who don't need medical care very often probably wouldn't notice the difference, but I attend my wife's visits and I can see big differences between individual providers.

One said: "Well, 65% of the people that come to see me I can't help." Which is a euphemism or excuse for laziness, in my opinion.

My own doctor is a physician's assistant. I prefer this type because they spend more time with you and don't have the ego problem many doctors do. He doesn't let me get away with anything either.

That's the message I preach daily on my med thread. Readers there have reported back to me in the last couple of months of at least four cases of heart disease and several other problems they discovered by following my advice to get heart and body scans.

They were asymptomatic for these problems, and their Doctors didn't find them. You aren't allowed to do this in the Canadian Medical system. Obama and crew don't like it either.

That works for you, me, Lindy and most here. However, there are a lot of passive medical consumers out there who don't have the slightest idea that they need to take control over their personal health issues.
