This is a long story you posted, but only two things REALLY need to be known about Canadian health care:

a) People who can afford it commonly come to the US for treatment because Canadian health care does not meet their needs.

b) The Canadian socialized medicine program has been acknowledged as a failure, even by one of its chief architects. If that isn't evidence of a failed system I don't know what is.

Ted, that's a pretty good article, one which I hope every American reads.

We're about to inconvenience 245 million Americans who already have health insurance with much longer waits and higher taxes, all to give insurance to the other 55 million. I'm sure we Americans can handle it, but it's going to be a national lesson on reading the fine print.

They'll probably turn it over to a collection agency and harass him for the rest of his life."

So you cancel you land line phone service and use only wireless phones, big deal. Or if you are honest and can pay for wirless phones, you set up a payment plan. But if you are stupid enough not to be insured that is what you deserve. IMO the government just needs to come up with a plan to cover people who have recently lost their jobs, became disabled. The homeless and illegal immigrants would continue to clog up the emergency room. But IMO the government needs to put these people in asylums and deportation waiting prisons to take care of that problem.
