In theory, I agree with that.

But in this case, it does look like Gates might have crossed the line with his abuse. Screaming at the cop, repeatedly calling him a racist and making comments about his mother will get anyone arrested.

There had been break ins in the area. The cop was right to ask for ID, then Gates went off. It was a lack of maturity on Gates part
