The simplest thing to do might be to get a new SIM card from the local carrier.

None of the local Philippines carriers are iPhone authorized, so I think the same error will occur.

Ah, wait. I just found detailed instructions, including even a link to the 1.1.4 software. It's a 165mb download,

I have the feeling that even if I restore the old OS, it will not work with the unauthorized SIM. I think I need to either unlock or jailbreak it again?

Any view on this stuff on Ebay?

Also, any idea how I tell whether it is iPhone 3G or iPhone EDGE? It might be edge, because before installing the 3.0 OS I would occassionally get error messages that I'm not subscribed to EDGE service.
