What is the total amount of money paid out in medical negligence suits as a percentage of the total amount of money paid for medical care? I have heard it is a very small percentage - like 1% or 2%. If that is true, how can tort reform make a significant difference? Many states, including Texas and California, already have limits on such awards.

John, have you heard Obama discuss tort reform lately?

Murrey,

You do know you spell your name wrong, friend. Murray is spelled with an "a" not an "e". My middle name, my mother's maiden name, and a host of relatives. All spell it right. ;-)

On tort reform, I gather it's important to you. Could you find some data that would indicate just how important it is at the macro level? My last reading of that data was that it's quite a small part of the problem. But it's been some time since I looked at it carefully.
